Default question about oil pump o-ring

Ok so my car makes some lifter noise. I'm a GM technician and i found a bulletin about this kind of complaint. It says that the oil pump pick-up tube to oil pump o-ring can be damaged causing the oil to aerate and not supply sufficient oil to the lifters causing the noise. I was wondering if anyone has run into this and had it fixed and also if you can just take out the one retaining bolt for the tube at the pump to replace the o-ring. That way all i would have to do is take off the water pump, front cover, and balancer instead of removing the the entire front suspension and oil pan . Thanks.

Did you recently have the oil pump pickup tube apart and remove the o-ring? I can't imagine how it would become damaged if it had never been disassembled.

If you do decide to tear it apart...

You won't have to completely remove the oil pan, but you will have to drop it a bit. Might possibly have to remove the oil pump as well to get enough clearance between it and the pick up tube to get the new o-ring in. And yes, one 10mm bolt (I think the size is right) is what holds the pick up tube to the pump.

Last thing you want to do is try to wedge that new o-ring into place and damage it without knowing it until you get the car back together.

There was a bulletin on this, and several in the Corvette community ran into it. I don't have an f-body so I can't recommend the procedure, but on the Vette it would be remove the rack, water pump, harmonic balancer and front cover. No oil pan removal necessary.

u basically have to nearly completely unbolt the oil pan to be able to get enough room to unbolt the pickup tube bolt.

lowchevy2go did you change oil pump or cam only? I recently did a cam only swap and my oil pressure is lower than before ~30-35 warm idle and I also have some lifter noise.
