GTO LS1 to 400hp ??
What would be the easiest way to get a GTO LS1 to 400HP.
I'm installing these into a 78 Camaro, and I'm throwing some longtube headers on it, and ditching the A/C unit altogether. I'm not sure where that will put me as far as HP #'s.....any ideas?? 350HP stock + what ?? Primarily looking for bolt on power.
I want to attain 400hp if possible and the cheapest route possible but most efficient for the money. Any ideas?? Any Hot Rod or Super Chevy articles anyone knows of ??
So far I found this one, but I think it's kinda costly and must be an F-body LS1 I'm assuming. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/67018/index.html

The example cited by HOT ROD was a Corvette, as seen in the first and last photos. They also showed a switch to the LS6 manifold, which your GTO LS1 ('04) should have.
I agree with Fast GTO on the 400 crank hp: headers and a good tune should get you there. However, I don't think that you'll need to change heads to get to 400 rwhp. There are plenty of cam only cars turning 400 or better to the wheels.
Thunder Racing 224/224 on 114 - 398hp
Thunder Racing 230/224 on 111 - 410hp through 12 bolt with 4.30's
custom 228/232 on 110
Those results may be better than some, but just shows that it happens, and you don't have to sink $1000+ in heads to do it. If you do have the money though, Texas-Speed has a package for $1499 that has heads and cam and should handily exceed 400 rwhp.

On the GTO you will need a VERY aggressive cam to break into 400rwhp territory. Everyone I know pushing 400+ has heads.
Yes, it has the LS1 with the LS6 intake but for some reason the GTO seems to dyno about 10-15 rwhp less than the fbodies and vettes.

You can get 400 RWHP with bolts ons without adding heads..a lot of people including me have done it...
