Tons of options... most of them pretty good too.

I'm in Texas, not sure what sponsors are based in Michigan. But I'm sure there are plenty within driving distance that will hook you up with a reliable 500+ horse daily driver for $5k or so.

If you're a manual and like to drag race (and have another couple grand to spend), consider using part of that scratch for a 12 bolt or 9 inch. Stock one will go bye bye quickly if you launch hard.

See link to Texas Speed and Performance.=====>
If you're thinking Texas, you owe it to yourself to check out MTI as well - as in the MTI which was on the cover of the latest Motor Trend.

I'm no expert, but 500 rwhp is probably unattainable in a streetable stock cube, naturally aspirated auto.

This time last year I was in the same boat as you and to sleep better at night I decided to do it right and forge the bottom end and save up for the blower. My $.02 eather buy the blower and run it on the stock engine at a low # of boost Save up then build a low compression, forged, blower camed moter, or build a blower engine and driveit for little then get the blower. If you throw a H/C on the stock bottomend and send a pistion in to you new heads you will be starting all over again with a busted *** engine. Dont get into a hurry just becouse you have some money in your pocket, see sig I've spent about 14K and I'm not done yet. just my $.02

Go with a forged bottom end. Its a bitch to pull a motor once you have a blower attatched to it.

Still think nitrous is a viable option, but then again....Twin Turbos sound better than a procharger.

as someone else said 500 rwhp on a stalled auto is very difficult and probably unattainable, however that doesnt mean you cant cut the times you want at the track. Also, 500 rwhp in a stock cubed ls1 is going to be VERY difficult to drive on the street. You also will have to get a port matched 90/90 combo, 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8th headers, fuel system, pulley, and a sick flowing head and cam package. I know tsp/mti/futural/TTP have made 500 rwhp combos on stock cubed ls1's but I believe they were all manuals. If you really want 500 rwhp NA then go bigger cubes, say a 383 stroker or 408.

Keep in mind if you want to run 11s or 10s you don't need 500-600 rwhp to do it

IMO 5-6k isnt going to cover the cost of buying a procharger and a new rear end and a stall and kook headers and all the other stuff that you want to get with the procharger. Especially if you are planning on forging it too!

I was in the same spot as you in december and i decided to go the head/cam route with nitrous (i know your against that part, i used to be too) and i will eventually procharge it (my friend works at a procharger dealer = awesome deal). All in all i will be putting down between 550-600 RWHP depending on what size shot i go. BUT I KNOW YOU...... YOU DONT WANT NITROUS.

With that being said good luck with your decision.

Honestly I was in the same boat too, was thinking about a procharger or sts setup, but seriously get the 9 inch rear, a nice heads/cam package, like a 3500 or so stall, intake, full exhaust, and a tune (dont know your setup so I was listing everything). You couldmake anywhere from 430-460+ rwhp, depending on how radical a h/c package you go with. That would probably cost you anywhere from $6K-$7K and would easily ge you into the low 11's, maybe even high 10's. Then save for a forged shortblock and procharger and sell off you old setup.

$2000 for the Heads/Cam/valvetrain components
$2100 for 9 inch rear
$500 or so for a nice stall converter
$1300 for full exhaust
$250 for a pulley
$100 for ported throttlebody
$600 for 42# injectors and 255 lph fuel pump
$400 for a full tune

Then you have to think about your tranny, suspension etc...but that would be a real good start.

a D1SC procharger alone cost right at 5,000$ and thats not even a with a front mount intercooler...

you'll be suprised what 450rwhp feels like...

heads=2400 for a NICE set
cam=400
install stuff is around 500 for gaskets, pushrods...etc.

headers- 900$ exhaust 400$

if you plan on getting a procharger just make sure your cam will work with it.... meaning a big split cam -example 228/236 .595/.620 114lsa

it does seem like you have very little knowledge about the LSx motor so just take your time and start out with bolt ons...

if your car is stock 400rwhp will feel totally different than 315rwhp...

or just put a dry shot of nitrous on it with heads and a cam and have over 500rwhp with minimal money invested.
