You can, but the torque specs change because of the different lubricating properties of the 30 weight. Go spend $7 and get the right stuff from ARP.

The spec. on arp rod bolts, is to stretch the bolts .0045" - .005" with molly lube.
You will need a stretch guage to check this.

Get a rod bolt stretch gauge and know it's done right. The last motor I put together I went through and checked stretch versus torque readings and they varied by almost 7 ft/lbs.

I am putting a 5.3 in a S10 while the motor is still on the stand should I be swapping out my rod bolts for ARP's and if so how much of a nightmare is it to do with the motor still assembled?

Hmmm I'm pretty sure I went 55ft-lbs three times on each bolt when I did the bearings/bolts in my bottom end. I'm pretty sure that was with their moly lube.

I'll have to go back and think it over for sure, but I *thought* that's what I did.

I bought the non-waveloc bolts, it was like the $70 kit instead of the $80 or $90 kit.
