I don't know what set your getting "really cheap", but I installed the Comp Cams #1500 system and I am very satisfied with the results.

The instructions are crappy though.

They may be "ugly", but they are adjustable.

I'm wondering the same thing. About to go with a bigger cam so I'm going back to 1.7's. Go stock or go 1.7 Shaft mounts. Someone have any more info on this subject?

Well The big advantage is that they are ADJUSTABLE.

There is no substitute to knowing and being able to accuratly set preload.

They are rollers to boot.

Here is a test:

Set a long straight edge across the row of valve stems.

Are there any gaps, that is do some of the valve stems not come up to the edge?

If so, that gap will still exist with the same length pushrod installed.

I can show you EFI data (from my motor) that shows what a 0.010" differance in preload will do, and what happens when the thing is dialed in.

That is why I did not install a non-adjustable rolling rocker.

All of a sudden they don't look so ugly huh?

the benifit of shaft mounts is drivetrain stability. exactly what you need for high RPM.
they're adjustable because most guys that need them, are running solid rollers.

if they're stock ratio, and you're not doing anything to take advantage of them, you wont see any gains.. but they're almost required on a high RPM solid roller motor.

the "little bit off" is compensated for by the hyd lifters.
if this was a max effort, all out, every 1/4hp is visible race motor that required a hyd cam, then you might try it, but realistically, you'll see as much gain at the track as you do when you pee before you run. (weight loss)
