This is mainly to the guys with bigger cams that make power over 6k. I just wanted to know if my engine can shift " safely (?!) " at 6700-6800 rpms ?
Motor has 55,000 miles on it. Never sprayed, never burns oil, oil change every 2,000 miles, 93+ ocatane fuel all the time.

It's not safe if you got a stock bottom end. Have you changed your timing chain? I would keep it 6200-6400 if you had a good timing chain and springs to handle your lift. 6800 is way too high for safety. Don't ruin a good car.

What cam do you have or plan on going with? It all depends on where the cam makes power. If you're going to buy a higher duration/lift cam and you're planning on twisting it tight then upgrade to ARP rod bolts and a new timing chain. It's worthwhile insurance...you don't want to ruin your motor due to 'cutting corners'.

Well the cam is already in, car is almost done. The cam I went with is 243/249 .613/.618 lift. Upgraded to chromemoly pushrods, patriot GOLD .650 lift dual springs, SLP double roller timing chain, 25% pulley, all gaskets, bolts. Yes it is a good car. Runs like a dream. I hope I didnt go to crazy with it now. Ahh ****, more I put in it.. more of a monster it becomes. Thats what I wanted, I guess.

Most '01-'02 cars received the LS6 rod bolts, which are good for ~6,900 RPM. Earlier years are not nearly as strong. Some don't live even at 6,500. I'm switching the rod bolts in my 1998 for the Katechs so I can spin higher without worrying as much.
