Default Power loss and back fire, any advise

Here's the problem. It a 98 SS with 74,000 miles. It backfires through the exhaust on start up from time to time and sometime on shifts when the motors not warm. The car is also down on power quite a bit. If I roll in first and stomp the throttle the car will NOT break traction. It runs rich because it blows black smoke at WOT. Over all the car runs fine but just lacks power. I had it tested on a Genissis and the test set could not register the rpms. I don't know if that has anything to do with the power loss but it did seem strange. There is no engine light by the way, and no stored codes.
So far I've changed the plugs, wires, and cleaned the MAF but still the problem remains. I'm a bit new to the ls1 so I'm not sure where to start looking. Any suggestions would be a huge help. Thanks guys

if the tester couldnt read rpms, id check the cam sensor/wiring.
but that should throw a code.
starting place anyway.

That's what I thought but the dealer said same thing, that it should throw a code. I may just replace the damn thing just to try it. Thanks

Running rich is normal on a stock tune. Backfiring is very normal when the engine is cold. When my car was stock I could baby it up to 30mph in first and slam the gas all of a sudden, and it would not break traction. With drag radials, it still won't. The power loss could be your imagination... my car certainly feels slow when nothing changes on it after a while.

i wouldnt think that backfiring would be very normal, IMO.

Have you thought about cleaning your injectors? Just a thought. When they get clogged they can drag power down big time and possibly cause misfiring...
