Is it possible a cam can make a car overheat?I have a procharger with long tubes when the engine was stock the car could run and idle in 100 degree weather without overheating but when i got the motor forged with heads and cam the car overheats when it idles.I installed an electric water pump and 160 thermostat with the same results.Ive checked everything from head gaskets to fans with no luck.Any ideas what could be causing the problem?

 

I had a similar problem with my z-28. I had the radiator "rebuilt" and cleaned. Car won't move over 180 degrees no matter how long it idles . Just food for thought.

Yes but are you running F/I or N/A?

Most with the procharger run into minor problems due to the obstruction in the rear of the radiator. Myself included.

With a new cam and if the tune is off yes you could have a overheating problem.

 

Is the fan set to come on around 175. The tune or the stock radiator would be my next idea. I assume by saying that head gaskets check out that you have pressure tested the system. Have you pressure tested the radiator cap as well. I believe the company name is stant that makes a really good radiator cap. The electric pump actually provides less flow than a stocker and can cause the car to run hotter.

 

i have a procharger and i didnt pressure check the car.It has a radiator with the cap on the overflow jug.I think the tune might be off because the car now runs rich.How do i do a pressure check on this kind of radiator

 

You need a pressure tester. I can't see how you don't have a cap on the radiator it's self. If the cap is only on the overflow that would mean that it has to be pressurized all the time. The pressure tester is like a radiator cap that screws on. It has a tube going to a pump with a guage in the middle. You have to pump up the system to say 14psi to check the system. The cap can also be screwed on to this unit to test where the cap opens.

 

Where can i get a pressure tester?

 

Kragen, autozone, pepboys or similar auto parts store. Or just go into a shop and have them test it for a couple bucks.
