Default Save Money

Hey check it out your AFR heads you have are veary and I mean veary respectable heads. In my opinion save your money and just have somebody respectable port them out.You said that you had your 408 build by LME just take those AFR heads back to them and have them port them out.I know the owner from LME I used to work with him Pacos the guy is guiness and know's what he is doing. If you did not do it when you got you'r 408 build have them put 2.08 Intake and 1.600 ex.depending on what cam you have that will be your best bet for more horse power.I'm actualy a head porter well used to be I worked at a respectable shop and know what I'm talking about know I'm in the Army and on my way to Iraq.Get back with and let me know you cam specs I got tons of more advice for you.

big bore or small bore 225's? I'd personally leave the 205's on there if they are big-bore 225's.

Small bore 225's are good... I really wouldn't expect to light the world on fire by swapping the heads though... what you have are already top-notch heads.

I was looking into a set of ET 225's for my 346 (I will swap them to a 408 build next summer). I was talking to a member on here who has the ET 245s and said they are amazing on his 408. However, a 90/90 intake setup will not flow enough for those heads, he's going to use a sheetmetal intake of some kind. I would also look into a set of 1 7/8ths headers if you haven't already.

However, if you want to save the money you could probably get the AFR 205s you have now CNC'd and get some great flow numbers from them.

Well I already got the AFR 225's heads today, brand new.Next weekend Im going to go to Houston to pick up another 408 Brian at LME build for me.I told him about the heads,so we came to reason were going to mill them .018" while Im there, and go with a thinner head gasket to get .040" quench.I hear alot about quench as tight as .030" is that to close?I want to expect or assume to pick up at least 10-15hp

The 5.3s do well if ported right. Here's a thread from our SS.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamometer-results-comparisons/521967-finally-got-408-grocery-getter-dyno-results.html

The AFRs would be a good choice though. Remember though that with a bigger cam you can run a bit more compression on pump gas. Just get the DRC right. Good luck.

Man you need things to go your way. You deserve a break. Keep us posteed!

SVT is right about ET 245`s. Mine outflow my 90/90 ported set-up bigtime. I`m saving to go alittle bigger to help them flow. But I wouldn`t change a thing!! Love the TRQ all threw my rpm range.

Instead of worrying about just your heads, I'd have your fast intake ported...
