Default Oil pump & cam chain. HC swap.

I'm tempted to leave the stock cam chain and oil pump in there. My car has 30kmi and makes good pressure as it is.

This way I wouldn't have to drop the oil pan or mess with the dreaded pickup tube o-ring. Right?

....And I'd take the money saved and spend it on a Fast 90/90 set up.

What do you guys think? Whistling past the bone yard? Or a reasonable decision?

you have an 02 so i wouldnt worry about the oil pump, but for the timing chain, at minimum get an LS2 chain. You can get a double roller adjustable set for 100 bucs, i'd go for it if i were you.

My car is in the shop as we speak having a set of heads and a trex clone installed. My car has 55K miles on it, and I wasn't planning on installing an oil pump or timing chain. They said the stock chain would be more than adequate for my setup and they had never heard of a stock chain breaking...it's more insurance than anything.
I ended up having to install an oil pump when I hadnt planned on it. This was because when they had the pan off doing the arp rod bolts they found that the 2 rearmost rods bearings had issues. I had them put in an ls6 stocker in just in case there was debris in or if the stock pump had been weakened due to that happening.
In your case with only 30K I wouldn't bother with either.

i would recommend changing it.. its not that hard, just loosten all the oil pan bolts and its do-able.. for insurence purposes i would do it.

I'm doing a cam swap in my car in a couple weeks. I'm not going to replace the oil pump. Right now my car runs at 60 psi. Pump is still strong.

I am replacing the timing chain with the LS2 chain.
