Default How do I measure pushrod length???????

I am going to be installing heads and cam on my 6.0L iron block turned 402 stroker. The heads I purchased are TEA stage 3 6.0L heads milled to 64cc(as I was told, they were intended for a Brian Tooley). I also went with a Cartek 3x cam. I will be using my stock LS1 rockers on the heads, and a GM Heads/cam gasket & bolt intall kit. I also have a pushrod length checker that I am going to be using to find out the rod length.

The thing is my mechanic that is helping me install everything hasnt built performance engines which require measuring pushrod lengths before, just 13 years of R&R and regular GM mechanical work. I have an idea on how to check the length needed but I figured I should definatly ask here first so I dont screw something up and cost me a motor or something like that. I also dont want it to sound like a sewing machine. So any help would be greatly appreciated, and if by some chance you have the same motor as me with the same hardware let me know your pushrod lengths! And of course how you like it!!!! I am getting so anxious!!!!!!

I am going to be using one, but how exactly will I know if I set it at the right length? Compression tester, and see if the cylinder holds pressure and make sure the valve isnt open just slightly.

Here's some good info:

The comp cams checker starts out at 6.800” and every complete turn and alignment of the white line equals .050. Make sure the lifter is on the base circle of the cam and not on the lobe when measuring. You can tell by rotating the engine and seeing when the Pushrod goes up and then back down. When it goes back down, it's on the base circle and not the lobe. Keep adjusting the PR checker till it's at zero lash when the rocker is bolted down to 22 ft/lbs as it normally would be. Take the length of the PR when it's at zero lash and add the preload you want.

So let’s say you measure 7.275 at zero lash. You just need to add that desired preload to that measurement, which would be 7.275+.090=7.365 (~7.375)

Thanks alot! I must not have been searching the proper key words all day yesterday.

I got one last question, should the intake be the same as the exhaust pushrod lengths?
