Default Air hose attachment 4 Spring Change???

I'm looking for the attachment that goes into the spark plug whole so I can pump up the valves. What size attachment do I need to get???

I think it's a 14mm thread in the spark plug hole. When you buy one, make sure it's long and not the real short one. The short one will strip the few starting threads of the hole. Vinci High Performance sells a hose and adapter that fits like it's supposed to.

If you use a compression tester make sure it doesn't have a valve core in the end your screwing into the cylinder head.

I just use the TDC method, it's much easier.

I've always thought the air method was a hassle. I have one of those hoses somewhere, used it once, thought it sucked, went back to my old method.

Pull all the plugs, use thin rope (like clothes line, flexible is better, so don't use stiff plastic type) snaked into a cylinder, bring piston up to the top with a socket on balancer bolt till the rope stops it, change the springs. Quick, cheap, easy, no risk of stripping squat. I also like that it allows you to tap the OD of the retainers with a large diameter socket/hammer to unseat the keepers if they stick to the retainer.

I used the rope method once to change a busted spring on my 71 in the parking lot of the barracks back in my USMC days. The smog heads have huge chambers, had to use a LOT of rope.

For 45 years I have stuck a soda straw through the spark plug hole to find TDC. The straw lets you feel the piston coming up without doing any damage to the cylinder. TDC obviously keeps the valves from dropping.

I think its just a personal preferance thing. I thought it was much easier to just use air. It took me less then a minute to get the hose screwed into the spark plug hole and get the air hose hooked up. And using air the valve doesn't drop at all so there is no need to worry about having to tap the retainer to get the keepers out.

Yep, I used a very small rubber tube. As soon as you reach TDC the rubber snugs up nice and tight. And using this method, you only have to pull 4 plugs (in case you want to avoid #8).

The air hook up is easier if you have a right angle and a quick release air fitting attached.

Believe it or not you only have to pull two plugs using the straw method. I know it's #1 but I don't remember the other, but by just pulling two plugs all the pistons are at the top of their stroke.
