Pro and Cons......Steel block vs Alum.
Pro and Cons......Iron block vs Alum. Well has my luck would have it, it is time for a new motor, lost #5 piston. Looking for a bit of guidance on a choice of block. What are the pros and cons for alum vs a Iron block.

if you are shooting for really high numbers, i would go with iron. Some in the fi section, and I have heard elsewhere besides forums, that the liners in Al blocks will distort way more than soild iron will (decreasing ring seal and power). Of course this is at outrageous hp numbers....

I voted alum three reasons
1. gets rid of heat better than iron
2. weighs a little less than iron
3. finally with the cost going down of ls1 block compared to lets say 2-3 years ago the only advantage of an iron block is that it is stronger under boost , but then agian you could always throw some darton sleeves in the alum block

i said steel (iron) build it once, build it right, build it to withstand all the abuse you don't even plan to throw at it. and whats 60lb's when you're making 1000 hp+ or so the iron will be stronger. You said it your self weights not an issue
