valvetrain question.
valve spring question. i was wonder if there is a way to check if some dual spring are still good. im looking into buying some from a guy and he says that they only have less than 5k miles on them. i have them and wanted to see if theres a way to make sure they are still good?

The only way to check them would be to check the open and closed pressures. If you would like, send them to us and we will be glad to check them for you.
This is my opinion, don't buy them. There will be some initial force reduction on a spring, but after that the measured load is not a linear function nor directly related to life of the spring. If you don't know for a fact that these springs have the indicated miles, pass on them. These are one item that I don't think are worth buying used unless you know exactly what you are getting. That coupled with the fact you have a pretty high lift setup could spell disaster later. Sorry, just my opinion.

Yeah, believe me, don't cut corners on valve springs. My dual springs I had on my 464 in my 67 were junk... I was running a solid roller and used the spring recommended by the cam manufacturer, and broke 4 springs within 1500 miles. Fortunately, the inner spring was enough to keep the valve away from the piston, but I didn't really beat on it.
