Default Street Strip cam for my "style" car!?

Well i have been fixing problems with my car lately and once i get them all settled down i plan on possibly swapping out the cam. this is a little different than your average cam choice. my car is a 71 vega with a 98 ls1(not sure if its the vette motor or trans am/firebird/camaro engine)

i want to get some opinions on what cam would be best for my car, i had it weighed and it rang in at 2651lbs w/ a full tank a gas and no driver. i currently have 3.08 gears but plan on changing them to 3.73's shortly. but with this light of a car i know my cam choice is going to be different then a 3400-3600lb f-body. right now the car has custom headers but they are more like shorties than long tubes and it has a 3.5'' intake, the rest of the car is stock.

heres my idea. i was thinking of purchasing the comp 918 springs and i looked around a bit and saw the G5x1 112, i figured it would be a decent sized cam and the 112lsa would be good if i decide to run nitrous on the car.

i think for now i want to run stock ls1 heads but maybe down the road i will change them out. but would this cam be good for either stock heads or aftermarket heads? i plan on getting it tuned as well, changing the oil pump ls2 timing chain.

what do i need as for pushrods as well? stock pushrods i think are 7.4''? im used to first gen SBC's so bear with me a little bit. does anyone think this is a bad setup to go with? or should i change a few things, my budget isnt the highest thats why ill probably be looking for slightly used stuff.

im probably looking for 400-410whp. i also plan on changing to an LS6 intake possibly around the same time depending on when i can get my money built up.

as the car sits i put 4-5 cars on an 05 GTO that recently ran 12.9@112.8 from a dead stop and i had a passenger up to about 120-130ish.

you can see my car more on the first page of the conversion/hybrid section.

I'm guessing you don't drive the car daily, so you could probably go a little bigger. Being lighter the low end torque loss shouldn't kill you. Your exhaust might hold you back considerably though. I'd look at the G5X3 or 4, or MS3 or 4.
7.4" PR's should be ok, some are running 7.425 w/ the MS cams I think. Definatly upgrade to aftermarket hardened PR's. I'd use some double springs, I really like my PRC's. What trans are you running? These cams would work best w/ something in the 4000 rpm stall range if auto.

its an M6, i figured i wouldnt need much low end torque to get the car moving but i dont want to go too crazy with the cam. eventually ill probably get some patriot heads but not sure right now. i want to make this somewhat reliable, the car isnt being driven every day, maybe 1-2 times a week unless its nice all week then ill drive it every day.

If you are looking for 400hp you will need a 228 to 234 duration camshaft. I like my Comp Cams 232/234 .595"/.598" 112+2. I drive mine everyday, and tuned it idles at 850 rpm in an M6 with a nice lope. It starts to pull at about 2400 rpm and pulls to redline 6700 rpm.

TSP has a equivalent to this called the Torquer v.2.

will that still give me a decent torque curve or would i be lacking in that area?

TSP's torquer is a a good cam, 232/234 i think, FMS F13 or F14, LGM's G5x1, x2, there's lots of cams that will give you decent low end torque and close to if not 400 rwhp.

make sure u get some heads too, the 98 ones, like i have, arent that great and with a cam it will greatly help out. i like my torquer 2. texas-speed has good deals on heads/cam and springs packages
