What does this part do?
The pics show where it came from. It was left in the LS1 block when it was swapped for the LS6 block. There are electrical issues that won't allow us to start the LS6 block motor. I'm wondering if this plunger couples to a sensor. That may be the reason that the PCM is not allowing the engine to fire.

I'm trying to find out. The LS1 block actually has a pressed in plug in the front oil galley opening & had this restrictor/plug in the rear. Does an LS6 have a pressed in plug in the front & a restrictor in the rear also or are both ends plugged, or both ends restrictors?
The good news is that we have been tracking down an electrical problem that has kept the engine from starting. It will turn over, but, won't fire. So, the pump is moving oil w/very little pressure & the engine has not been running.
Unless the company that sold me the block can confirm the oil gallery plug/restrictor, we're gonna have to tear the engine down & look.

Verdad Gallardo They are the same setup as the LS1 block. You can check the the rear without tearing down the engine. There is a allen head plug at an angle to the restrictor. Pop that out and use a rod, screwdriver, etc. to check for it. If the restrictor is in you will hit it and it won't go in more than an inch or so. If not.....it will go in the whole way. Use the old block as a reference.

Front is plugged but I don't think it will be there on a new block. The person you bought the block from would have had to install it. I'm not sure if you can see it if you remove the allen head plug near there. Again...I'd use your old block to check that. Worst case you'll have to remove the front cover.
Thanks all for the extremely helpful posts. The company that sold me the block says that the front plug is installed & the rear barbell or restrictor was not installed. Although our electrical problem remains, it saved the block from disaster. Thank-you again & I'm hoping to have her running soon.
