Default Starter Cam

Hey, I am gettin my longtubes and ory put on in mid july. its comin up soon. i am planning on getting cam shortly after, problem is i dunno how big of a cam to get. I'm looking for a good starter cam, i do still drive my car around town and would like it to be fairly streetable. Im looking for sumthing just big enough to where its not pointless to even go through the trouble tearin it apart. i was thinkin about the hotcam 219/228 .525/.525 lift? what ya guys think? i tried to narrow down what i want as best i could. o yea and after this i was plannin on sum 3.73s but thats pretty much all.

thanks

I had the hot cam in my NA setup, worked well, but the TR224 would be a MUCH better selection in the long run. The profile of the hotcam vs the thunder racing 224 on a 112 is completely different. You will generally get more power/torque out of the 224. Get it tuned regardless, even if you end up with the hotcam, it'll pay off, trust me.

You and GM made a good choice for your stock heads.

Try the vulnerable TR224 (224/224 112). Would make a GREAT "starter" cam and some.

My first cam was the w1 and it's a great starter cam, and great on nitrous as well should you ever decided to go that direction.
227/232 .578/.589 116 lsa
You go too much smaller than that, and you will regret it... you'll want a bigger cam before you know it.

I have a stock engine with a stock converter, only mods I have are the SLP flowpac and a cutout. I'm planning on installing a Hot Cam also. Is that a good cam for my car or should I go bigger? I'm tight on budget so I may or may not be able to afford tuning.

I just installed the hotcam in my car this week along with 243 heads all for about $700...and I dont regret it yet. Its not neck snapping speeds, but well worth the $200 I paid for it. I have yet to get it tuned though. But it sounds awsome and you get sotp feeling from it. Im going to hit the track sunday to see how its doing.

228R cam will give you a nice amount of power across the board.
