DIY - Home Ported Heads Information Page
http://www.shinken.us/DIY_heads.htm
So far I've just posted a compilation of pics that I put together for printing. I got all of the pics off this forum so thanks everyone! If you see some pics of yours, let me know and I'll put up some credits. In the future, I plan on adding notes and information that I found especially usefull.
I'm done porting mine. Just have to clean, paint em, and slap em on!

great job! how did you get that kind of finish on the ports?
and what did you break into (the spot you marked with red on one of the ports)? was it a water passage or a bolt hole?

Those pics aren't of the heads that I'm working on. It is a collection of pics that I put together when I was researching and preparing.
The area that you can break through on is the rocker boss (bolt hole) in the intake port. I'll put up more info on the site in a little bit.
Thanks Bo! I read a lot of your posts when I was researching.

Were all those heads really hand ported? Seems like most were CNC ported and possibly hand finished.
Anyway, heres a couple of pics if theyre of any use to you. Sadly no finished pictures after I polished them up and milled. I ran into an emergency and had to get the heads on teh car ASAP and didnt get to snap and pics at the end.

I think most of them are hand port jobs but mainly, I was just looking for pics that show results I felt were attainable with a hand port. Thanks for the additional pics. I'll include them. The more the merrier!

thanks for the site! i would really like to port some heads for myself... if i could ever find the time.
when you smooth down the rocker boss and expose the hole, what should you use to smooth the hole out, so that air can smoothly run over that area? epoxy?

um I guess you could do it like a throttle body but I think most just leave it as and use thread sealer on the rocker bolts.
I'll work on the page a little more once I get caught up on school work.

I've done some light port & polish work on SBC heads in the past, but not sure what the average DIY'er can achieve with LS1 heads (241) for the time it takes.

So couldn't I just cut the rocker bolt length like .250? I'm just having a hard time imagining the bolt ending up at precisely the right angle. Maybe mark the bolt heads to verify the angle?
