Default Cam Selection

Okay guys, I am looking to drop a cam in and have no idea about cam sizes. Maybe i can get some thoughts from you guys.

I have a 2000 Trans am, Hooker lt's, Level 4 Finishline 4l60e transmission, 3600 yank stall, 3.73 gears, and a 150 of nitrous and some 918's.

I was looking at going with the XER273HR

I am looking for sound and speed

Should i be staying with the 114 or do you think i can go with the 113 and be satisfied with nitrous

Thanks

Unless you plan on spraying a 200 shot or larger, choose your cam based on your NA goals. Nitrous works very well, even with 108LSA cams. Remember, figure out your NA goals and pick a cam that satisfies your needs.

Consider a 228/232 .588/.592 110LSA +1 cam for your needs. It's very well rounded.

Okay, I am spraying a 150 on it so that don't matter when it comes to the LSA'S??

I like something that has a bit of drivability and put me into the lower 12's's N/a right now n/a i am pushing 12.6xx's

That G5X3 Sounds good but is it going to do good on 243 head??

Patrick....do you have a sound vid of the one you have and are you A4??

The G5X3 will work fine on a stock head. You can hear MANY clips of different cam/exhaust setups on LS1sounds.com

I'd agree with Patrick to stick in the 22x range on a cam, however, I might try the 228 on some Xer lobes. I think TSP has it as the 228R. If you wanna be a little ballsier you could give the Texas Speed Torquer 2 (soon to be Torquer 3) or Thunder Racing TRAk a shot.

Might take a minute to load, but this is my recently installed 228/232 588/595 on a 110+1 LSA.

Should be great on the street. Just make sure you get a good tune.

With a good tune the 228 will be fine on the street.

I still think you'll be fine. From what I have read on here, you really don't start losing daily driving comfort until you hit the mid 23x range. A 112 LSA might make it sound a little meaner, but I don't think drivability will be sacrificed. I'm sure some guys with the 228r on a 112 LSA will chime in. By reading your sig, it looks like you are going to have a great daily driver with a really sick second half!
