Looks like a lock. I would pull of your valve covers and check the springs at the top of each spring is the lock.

If you're were actually missing a set you would have known about when you're engine drops a valve onto a piston.

It has to be a extra set!

the only way it coudl be a lock is if the top of it broke, and the other half is still on the valve, and they are not equal sizes either

That's not a lock.

It's a washer from somewhere. Perhaps a bolt from the windage tray is sitting at the bottom of your oil pan and thats the washer that has been to hell and back.

What could cause the bolt to come out? Not put in right? What damage could it cause?

Im assuming with that big stroker you have, it has ARP studs. The washers on my windage tray had a smooth gloss black finish. Is there any hint of black on that at all? Even if it got chewed up I would think there would still be some paint on it. I don't think it's a windage tray washer....

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I’m gonna have it checked out at the shop as soon as I can, but how dangerous do you think it is to drive like this?
I’m pretty sure I had it in there for a while, but it can’t be very good , so at a minimum I’m gonna take it extra easy with the car and I think I’ll try to drive it as little as possible.

The extra amount of metal shaving on the drain plug is a bit concerning to me as well. Usually there’s less of this stuff there.

Any thoughts?

Yes, I believe I have ARP studs. Its been a while since the build up, so I don’t remember.
No hint of black.

Lol at whoever said lock originally!
Apparently you have never changed a valve spring.

That thing is small, way to small to come from the windage tray. I was gunna say it looked like a washer from the small studs of the ARP head stud kit, but I don't see the machined inner groove that is on the ARP washers. Looks like something may have just got left in there.

Well, it looks like this washer (or whatever it is) is clearly broken in half.
I’m assuming that’s why it fell out from wherever it was.

I know your plug is magnetized, but is the washer itself? Wondering if it is remnants of a "magnetic pen".

He said it's been a while since his build up. I'm assuming he's had more then one oil change since the motor was built and broken in. Chances of something taking that long to get to the plug isnt't that likely I wouldn't think. But I guess it's possible?

Very true. I've just never seen part like that inside a LSX motor. You'd be surprised how long something can sit in the valley or in the head before it ever washes out.

I'm wondering what chewed it apart. It's clear that it used to be in one piece, but what kind of damage has been done to whatever to the component that broke it apart? Cam, piston, sleeve, lifter, etc...
