Cam at 86k?

Cam at 86k? Hey whats up everyone. I've been looking into a cam setup for my 98 ls1. My question is, Is it safe to do a cam install with 86k on my motor. Keep in mind that I plan to install a new cam, springs, rods, retainers and possibly a better oil pump. Is this install doable on my car is it to much of a risk to the rest of my engine with the 86k on it already. I've seen plenty of cammed ls1's with over 100k but I assumed they were cammed at a much earlier point. Lemme know what ya'll think...thanks in advance...josh.
Check the leakdown and compression. If those are fine <30% on the leakdown and compression within say 3-5% across the cylinders, then you should be fine. I'd go for the new oil pump, a new timing chain, new pushrods, and new lifters.

also this will be and is currently a daily driver...so i mean its not like it will be run all that hard besides the once or twice a day burning of tires or something...well thanks for the responses because now ive got a better feeling about going through with this...j.g.

yup definatly what he said. You have weaker rod bolts than newer models, So I would replace those. Better to be safe than sorry. and also get the ported oil pump.
I would also look into replacing the rod bolts if it will see 6500 - 6600 rpms or more. Get a ported and shimmed oil pump. Get an LS2 timing chain. Replace waterpump and front cover stock (paper) gaskets with newer metal o-ringed ones.

I just rolled over 100k, and I decided I will be doing a cam swap this fall with the Torquer 2. I wouldn't worry about the rod bolts. Many people with cammed LT1's spin theirs upwards of 7000, and those motors hold up fine having not been apart. LS1's have a stronger bottom end, so as long as yours is in good shape, don't worry about it. The fastest cam only M6 car in the country is a 99 with a T-Rex cam from Thunderracing. However, I will be replacing the lifters as I intend to go with PRC dual springs. You might want to consider doing that.

Ok this question is pretty similer but i have a 1999 trans am with 124,000 miles on but i do plane on getting a cam & head package with a new oil/fuel pump and a new LSX fast intake w/ 90mm TB and new headers and i plan to do all this at the same time iam gonna save up and have it all installed but not before i buy bolt ons first.
What should i do to the engine after the bolt ons cuz it has 124,000 miles.
