Oil Plumes under accel, using lots of oil.

Oil Plumes under accel, using lots of oil. WEll here is the deal, the car was using oil when i bought it. So i took the valve covers off and found no sealant on the rocker threads so i put some on and put it back together. Now its way worse, using more oil and puffs really bad sometimes at startup.
I was going to do the seals but saw the first 2 and saw they were holding oil and looked fine.
ANy advice?
Its sputtering from a driver side coil failure but when its running good it still puffs.
I dont know how it could get worse now...being i put sealant on unless seals magically gave out at this time.

the only thing i did was change oil...i noticed he had like 5-40 in there last time i put 5-30 could this have anything to do with it?
