Default lifter holder thingy Q??

i know it has a name but it's early and i cant think of it right now. anyway i have read that if you drill a 1/2 inch hole in the plastic thing that holds the lifters under each lifter it will drain off oil better and will not pool up in there and cause the oil to get hot and foam. have any of you guys done it and see any advantages and/or disadvantages. what are your opinions on this. i thought of doing it on my motor b/c it is a 98 and i know they have had oiling issues. but if it's not worth it then there is no sense in doing it.

I didn't do it because the part is a non-metallic and I was worried about weakening it too much or having it deform to lose lifter alignment. I don't think it is worth the risk on a street driven car. Just my opinion though, I tend to be conservative in my approach to things.

I have drilled oil holes in my lifter guides in my pick-up truck that is just cresting 50,000 miles. No problems so far. I also use them on my race engine.

I also drilled my lifter trays and have seen no problems. The way I see it, you can only benifit from it. I say go for it.

this motor will see less than 4000 mile per year but those miles will be kind of hard miles. it will be in a rockcrawler so it will be run at all kind of funky angles and i tend to step into a little too often. i'm just lookin for all those little tips that add up to make my engine better and more reliable overall. i'm gonna do it.

I didnt bother since its a street car. IMO this will only help you if you keep yoru car at HIGH RPMs for extended periods. Personally, I would rather have a stronger lifter tray, so I didnt drill.
