Default out of the hole

ok i saw a issue that a friend had with hes motor. he had an 11:1 408ci and after a while spun a bearing and had to go 10 under on the mains and rods. anyways to make a long story short he decided to change hes compression closer to 12:1 and decided to change the pistons. the machine shop bored out the block to 4.040 and ordered the pistons from texasspeed. after the short block was assembled and everything was ready to go the piston came out of the hole .030.. when he first got the motor they were only out i believe from .007-.015. anyways is something wrong with the assembly or did it end up like this because of the piston change? by the way had to order special gaskets from cometic to have a good quench.
