Default Rod bolts worth it?

Well I've got the motor out now and I figure its a good time to replace the rod bolts with some katech bolts. Just wondering if its worth it on a turbo motor with stock internals (pistons/rods) running 7psi. The motor will be replaced next year if the stock motor lasts that long. So should I do 'em or not?

I am (was) in the same boat. Since I am only going to spin to 6500 rpm, and because I have a late 2000 build car I decided to stick with the stock rob bolts for now. Next year I will probably build a forged engine, so I will put the money towards that.

However, if you have the engine out you might go ahead and do it. I dont plan to pull my oil pan, so it would be a PITA to do rod bolts on mine.

Cheap insurance if you ask me... But what do I know, I kept the stockers, and broke 2 pistons instead. LOL

Ouch!

Its cheap insurance, but you should justify the labor time by how much you plan on beating on it. RPM's kills rod bolts, so if you're not going to run it 6k+ on a pretty regular basis, I wouldn't worry about it.

That's why I was questioning whether or not I should change them. I don't plan on spinning it much past 6k but I figured the boost would put an increased load on the bolts as well. I'm just gunna do it. After going through the trouble of pulling the motor I might as well. It was a pretty never racking experience lifting the body with an engine hoist
