Default Cam people jump in

I am posting this so my buddy who has a 98 Ws6 can read this and we can settle a arguement. He is planning on buying and installing a cam package from tsp (his cam choice is a torquer v2 with a 110 lsa). All he has on his car is a whisper lid, k&n filter, supsension work and as far as exahust goes all he has done is took off his exahust from the muffler. He is telling me that he will see 35 rwhp and that his car will sound badass. Can someone please post on here and tell him that without a stall and gears the cars power wont be over a 20 whp increase. And without LT's his car won't sound badass.

Sorry for rambling i just want to clear up an arguement

A Torquer V2 on (presumably an A4) without a stall? Is your buddy nuts? The stock manifolds are not LT but it will still sound badder than stock, but I think your buddy needs to read LS1tech more before he starts throwing parts at his car. A TC should be first, then gears (if that is the route he wants), then induction (LS6 intake, ported TB), then exhaust, so that he can get most of the potential power from the Cam. Of course this is opinion, but it is better to support the Cam and build from the ground up and then tune the car to get the most out of the set-up when there are much easier and less expensive things that will be there for the Cam when it is ready to go in.

He will probably see 35 hp maybe more even with stock exhaust. It will also sound bad *** without a muffler and that cam. The other mods will help it make more but it is gonna make 35 more hp and probably more.

Get some more bolt-ons before you cam it. That seems to be the way it worked best for me 2 times.

Sorry to tell you this but, a big stall and gears will hurt your rwhp readings on a dyno. They will however make your buddy hella faster, than without them.

Get some Longtubes first. If the car can't breathe its gonna make crappy horsepower.

in a nutshell - your buddy is correct.

the car will have a more aggressive idle, that's about it in terms of "sounding badass.."

power gains will be minimal with manifolds + cats on the stock tune. performance gains (in terms of ET) with the stock rev limiter, stock tune, & stock stall (just to name a few..) will be harder to generate.

Yes the car will sound good but it will be slow with out a higher stall TC and gears like 3.73. The car will sound faster than it is and it sucks to have a badass sounding car and have your *** handed to you by car that idle's like stock.
