I was thinking about getting a set of used heads and getting them ported and polished. I was wondering how much power this would give and around how much it would cost me to get professionally done.

This is for a stock ls1 motor internally.

 

If you plan on running full bolt-ons and a cam you will see greater gains with the ported heads. I would get them milled also if you are going to do it right. Upping the CR will help make more power too. The price will range probably from $500-900 respectably upon what you want to have done. You will most likely see around 30rwhp out of a decent port job. All depends on how much money you want to throw at it. You could go as far as to have the CC welded up and have more than 100 man hours of work in a set of heads and see 50rwhp instead.

 

If you are doing ported heads you might as well do a cam too, even if its very mild cam I think its pointless to do ported heads with the stock cam just my .02 cents

 

But you will pick up some power regardless of cam change. I think that it would be with your best interest to do it though.

 

you might be as well off getting something like the patriot budget 243 heads.new castings and with a port job and still only 900 bucks or so.or if you just want alittle more power they have 243 bare castings unported for about 400 bucks that will pick you up 15-20 hp.
