Default Modifying ls6 engine for road racing. Flat powercurve

I built a tube frame car for road racing. I want like another 100 horsepower for next year. As you can see it already has a kinsler intake and long tube headers. I think i want to spend like 2 grand. I could do heads and cam for that, but i do not think i really need to touch the heads with the stock flow numbers 500 hp should not be hard to acchieve.

You definately need a cam ground for that intake.... something along the lines of a 102-104 lsa + a lot of overlap.

Supercharging it crossed my mind. That would give more usable power down low but how good are the centrigical style

Try a 228ish thru 230 duration cam on a 110 lsa with about .57x lift, Comp XE grind for spring longevity. Though, given your fancy shmancy intake, seriously consult someone who can help you match a cam to your setup. Give Katech a call.

I would not consider supercharging if you plan to track the car. It adds more compexity to the set up and if you throw a belt while driving around the track you can hurt the engine in a hurry. I have seen an ati equiped firebird go home on a flatbed because of this. Not to say it can be done just more things to go wrong. I think given the weigth of the car you should be fine with a nice cam. Maybe some shaved AFR 205's. But you are probably going to have to go custom in order to take advanage of your intake and free flowing exhaust. Try Ed Curtis

BTW, Maybe I'll run into you next year at Waterford Hills (I was there early this year and was a blast. Unfortunately I will not be able to go back until next year.)

without doing heads to get the power you are talking about you will need a pretty big cams. big cams normally have a peakier power curve.

If he wants 500 crank hp, that target should be no problem with a cam none too large and with stock heads.
