A buddy of mine says he wants to take a LS2, make 800 n/a whp and then throw on two turbos. Has ANYTHING like that ever been done? Or anything remotely close to it?

First off how? I guess your firend is either a genius or a moron? I'll opt for the latter.

I'm not certain you could get that HP out of a stock displacement LS2, even a larger displacement one would be a long stretch. Plus it would probably not even be usable on a race track let a lone on the street. Not to mention rebuilds every other time the engine was started.

That aside, a good n/a setup does not lend well to a good turbo setup. They require different things, such as cam, lobe seperation, overlap, compression ratio.

Take a WRC rally car engine, they make about 650bhp/650lb ft without the FIA restrictors in place, however when the turbo goes they make hardly any power. This happened to Marcos Gronholm the other year. The turbo let go. He didn't have enough power to higher than 3rd gear (it had 7 seven gears and was closly geared for accelaration and not top speed). I think this limited speed to around 40-50mph.

800rwhp on a turbo setup is possible, but running stock displacement and pump fuel I think that would be a tall order but not impossible.

 

He was talking about running a 427 and all that good stuff.

There is a vid around here of a 427 NA puttin 850 to the flywheel. It was pretty nasty soundin. I don't think it would be very boost friendly. I think your buddy is FOS.

 

800rwhp NA would be a very high compression motor, possibly solid roller. Would not run on pump gas at all. Low compression is what boost motors like, so it would not be possible to make a 800rwhp LS2 motor N/A first and then stick 2 turbos on it. It might be done with a big block or something like that, but definately not a small block chevy motor.

 

Like everybody else said, not on pump gas. And whats more, a motor built to make that much power n/a will certainly not take boost! The engine needs to be build in a totally different direction from the ground up if your planning on twin turbos (at those power levels). Your friend is not speaking intelligently at all.

why not just got 800rwhp with the turbos????

take a LS2, stroke it to 402, put on a nice set of turbos (61's should do the trick), with the right fuel system for the job, get it tuned, get all the other needed mods done (ie rearend and gearbox!!!), then you will be about done!

oh and you need a very good tuner to make sure it all holds together

and a **** load of cash, cos thats what its gona cost you!
