nastiest off the line cam? I am just curious what is out there that is the nastiest cam off the line for the LS1 motor? If I was going to pull a redwood out of the ground, with an LS1, what cam would I use, lol???? Seariously....
Forget about passing emissions unless you have a TR224 on a 114 or smaller (AND a really good tuner). No matter what cam you go with you'll need a tune. I gave up on passing emissions a while ago. Thank God it's only every 2 years, and my fate shall be decided this upcoming February. At least now I'm running high flow cat's. We'll see how it goes 
im in VA too and they just do visual here...hmmm with cats and exhaust that exits out the back im in the clear
oh and honestly an off the line cam is in your setup...i mean hell if your cam is a top end cam like the T-Rex thats the point of a High Stall or reving up your 6 speed and dumping the clutch at a certain RPM, because you wanna come "off the line" at your cams best power range.

Not that they make it, but, depending where you want your power, and if you had options, you would want to pick a manifold thats tuned to your cam, kind of like a converter being tuned to your parts. There are four basic designs that come to mind, for the small block chevy genI that I know of. They are the edelbrock
Performer Manifolds (idle to 5500 rpm)
Performer RPM Manifolds (1500 to 6500 rpm)
Torker II Manifolds (2500 to 6500 rpm)
Victor Series Manifolds (3500 to 8500+ rpm)
There are other manufacturers out there like holley and such that have similar manifolds. Now, if we only had such a LS1 option. Hmmm, maybe in 60 years, lol.

If you have to ask if the MS4 has the down low power you want, if you need a different length runner intake manifold, and if you don't want to tune ("program") your car, a cam probably isn't the best choice for you right now. I'd read up a bit on cams in general. There is a good sticky up top. A cam in the 224-228x range on a 112LSA (I'd venture down to a 109-110lsa even), on LSk lobes on the intake and exhaust side would probably make the best low end torque out there. Now, whether or not you can pull up a Redwood...I dunno. N20 would be the quickest/cheapest/most drivable torque upgrade. There are people spraying a 200 shot on stock internals, just keep your rev limiter and A/F in check.

Sooooo, I am not supposed to ask if I dont know? Then why would I ask if I DID know? I am just checking out all options, isnt that whats supposed to be done, match the appropriate stuff together? Not like I have the info hiddem up me bum and I just have to dig it out. 
For what I want, I am looking at a baby cam, maybe 220's with 550 lift so far, that should let me stay with stock stuff. That should get me into the 350 range which is all I need for now. If I could find a cheap cam, I might even experiment with my 98 and use the 220 before I get a 99+ and go nuts!

It needs some tuning but it should pass emissions as it is roughly -8 overlap.

I had a Thunder Racing TR220 (220/220 .551/.552 114 lsa) in my '04 GTO. Wasnt a dyno queen....355/350..BUT, that car had all kinds of low end torque. I could do a 3-4 shift at 80mph and light em up. I could hammer it from like a 5mph roll and smoke tires all day long. had a sweet smooth tq curve. Had tq in all areas. It was fun.
