4.8 with 5.7 heads, intake, etc?
I have a '98 LS1 in an RX-7. I may be overreacting but I am a little unsure of its health and have begun to toy with an idea that is pretty off the wall.
The RX-7 weighs basically 2,800 lbs. So it is light, doesn't take much to move it, etc.
What would happen if I took a 4.8 engine and stuck my LS1 heads, cam, & intake onto it and then turbo'ed it? I assume the combustion chambers of the LS1 heads are larger than the chambers of the 4.8 heads and I know the intake valves are bigger... Would the compression just become ridiculously low with 5.7 LS1 heads on a 4.8?
The off the top of my head plan would be to put in the '98 LS1 cam, upgrade to hardened pushrods and stronger springs so it can rev better without floating, and set it up with an undetermined as yet turbo.
Crazy talk? 4.8's are so cheap... and it would be rather different.
I know in the Building LS1/LS6 performance book they built a pretty high power stock 4.8 with a turbo.
Hmm....
