im rebuilding because of a noisy bottom end bearing problem and when we opened up the motor we found dirt in the lifter valley and oil pan. just wondering if i needed to change the oil pump out now and if i dont what am i risking?

 

Depending on how many miles on the pump and how much "dirt" you found, open the pump and check for signs of wear or just replace it.
