Hope all that oil didn't come out of your intake!

It actually did.
It poured out of it.
But... I think it's because I drove the car for about 50 miles with a blown valve cover that was spewing oil all over the engine.
I am going to have it all cleaned and fixed and maybe have the entire block painted to match the car. Maybe even the intake manifold as well.

Not at all. lol.
If you go back to page one... I put up some pictures. Check them out.
I blew apart a piston. I destroyed a head... I havent gotten the othe rhead off yet, so I dont the extent of the damage in that head, if any.
I know the back cylinder is FUBAR'd.
I already have a new set of heads coming to me today. I just need a block. I am going to set my sights on an LS6 block if possible.
Unless I can have my old block honed out to fix that damage. But I know LS1's are famous for not being able to be honed.
We'll see....

Which would be better? I have LS1 heads from a 98 coming in today.

Perimeter bolt 805 Castings? You know that your valve covers won't fit those heads right?

The heads I am getting come with the right valve covers for them.
He already told me about it.
I also need to use some of my lifters... and since I am decking/milling the heads for a higher compression, I need to buy shorter ARP head studs and different push rods.
What would you suggest?

I plan on it. I will be posting many pics as a "how NOT to" lose your jets and run an open shot of nitrous.

We sound like we are in the same boat financially. If this were to happen to me, I would buy a used LS1 shortblock or longblock depending on the damage to the heads. Yes, your heads will bolt on to an LS2 shortblock, but don't even bother calculating the amount of money it would take to go LS2 even if you did that.

Check eBay.

Oh, hell, man, don't take those. I didn't read that post. I hope you didn't pay for them. You'd be going from the best LS1 castings (241?) to the worst (805?). Also, I don't think your valve covers will fit.

Oh, and there is no advantage (from what I read) to going LS6 block over an LS1. Some prefer the '99-'02 LS1 blocks. An LS2 is a larger block (364 cid, makes a good 402 stroker).

Also, there are the LQ9 iron blocks (also 364, make good 408 strokers) to investigate.

I see.. thanks for the info. I wont buy the 98 heads. Not to mention the coil brackets wont line up. Plus, I have been talking to a guy who is sending me his 99 heads with only 45k miles. Those 98's had 85k miles and are coming with problems already.
Plus I am only paying $10 more for the 99's. This is going amazingly well for me so far.
If I could only get a block, I would be in business.
Thanks again for the help!!!!!

Well I have an 02 shotblock with 27K on it that i am removing as soon as my new shotblock gets here, I ordered an all forged 408 6.0L block to match the heads that are on the LS1 which i will be doing additional porting too and adding a different cam. This motor has never been raced, no nos, and only dynoed a few times I decided last night to get this other engine because I know the guy in washington he was about to install it and ended up wrecking his 02 SS so he sold it to me cheap. I also have the matching 241 heads for the engine as well they are perfect. No oil useage, leak down showed less than 2% on all cylinders and yes this is one of the 20% that got the LS6 block not that it makes it any faster or stronger. If your interested let me know.

Just an observation, but you ran nowhere near 300-400hp worth of nitrous into your engine. Jets aren't the only restriction, there is the nozzle, lines, solenoid and the bottle itself. I'd be very suprised if a Zex kit flowed over 200hp. You shouldn't have gone "that" lean unless you have little or no tuning. Ditch the platinum plugs next time. Copper is the way to go for nitrous.

Well, the nitrous was an open line, 1200 psi in a full 10lb bottle.
I know the fuel didnt match up... so i wasnt running a dyno-testable 300+ shot... I was comparing it to what a "dry" shot would be on an open line.
The ZEX solenoid is capable of flowing up to 350-400 shot depending on bottle pressure. But since mine was a wet shot, I didnt get that close. If it was a dry shot... It would been worse over all for me.
It was still a helluva blast. I was running consistant low 15's without the spray on that 118 degree track. I was on horrible street tires that put out tremendous wheel hop. So I babied the launch, floated softly through first.. then punched it into second and through third & still ran a 13.1x. I would say that was at least a 200 rwhp shot.
I also did not have any tuning at all. I was told I didnt need it on a 125 shot.
I'll put to memory on that copper plug suggestion next time.

But, thanks for the input.

Zex has big solenoids? I thought they were the same size as the NOS Powershot solenoids? I never ran a jet with my Powershots, just open solenoids, which only made 144 rwhp at 1150 psi.
