Default valve seal question

i bought crane dual valve springs i got new retainers for them and i had to buy new seats but my question is do you need a specail tool to put new valve seals because my seats and seals are made together and the ones i bought are not made together so i had 2 buy 99 valve seals to use with the crane seats thanks.

Use either a 1/2 or 13 mm deep socket and lightly tap them on the heads. Kent Moore does make a special tool for doing it, but the socket will work.

Hmmm, my 00' had seperate seals, never seen the one piece seal/seat before. Anyway, like metioned above, you can use a socket to install them which is what I did. I just pushed them on by hand using the socket, you can actually feel them seat that way.

The ones you pulled off look like this:

These were introduced in 02 and combined the seal and the seat. With the Crane retainers, you need to revert back to the older style seal that doens't have the seat integral with the seal (umbrella type of seal). The retainer goes on first, then the seal.

Caution caution caution.

If you are shimming the springs, and don't install them and set up the springs prior to installing the seal, you may end up replacing seals again. You need to do all your installed height measurements, etc. to figure out the required shims and then installed the shims/seats and re-measure to ensure it is correct. Once you have everything figured out, then install the shims against the head, then the seat, then the seal and finally the springs, retainers and locks.

What Crane springs? What cam? Have you determined your required installed height and open spring pressures?

Crane makes two sets of duals, the 832's and the 833's. The 832's likely need shims with that cam, the 833's probably not. Do you know which springs you have?

Those springs will need to be shimmed for that cam, at least in my opinion. I would shoot for a 140# seat pressure.

I would check with others who are successfully using that cam, and ask them about their spring setup as far as installed height and what springs. This will help determine how much seat and open pressure you need and from there the installed height requirements.

What rockers are you running?

12mm brother. ...13mm is slightly too big.

The shim is the seat it sits on. Which should measure out to .050. Unmilled heads im assuming with stock valves? If thats the case, they are drop ins.

EDIT*

Yes the 832's need shimming. Ive always recommended the 833's and used them. Sorry about the confusion.
