Default Stock Heads and A Cam

I have a 99 Camaro Z28. I am looking on definetly putting a cam in this motor. I currently have 65,000 miles on this motor and I dont want to put new compresion on old bearings. Now I know when I put a cam on the car I need to change the Valve Train: Pushrods, Springs.

Now I want to keep the stock head, but seing that I am going to be this deep into the motor, is it worth wile to change the rockers arms and port the current heads that I have, Or should I just go with a heads + cam kit.

I am going to be getting underdrive pullies, long tubes, Y pipe, electric dumps and I already have flow master on the car. I also has a whisper lid and the Free Ram air mod. My throttle body has already been ported.

I am aiming for 400 hp/tq range and in the end after I get a daily driver, I might put a 50 shot of nitrous.

It's 700 for a cam package from Texas Speed. Magic Stick 3. The kit comes with hardened pushrods, springs, locks and I believe seals. You can run stock rockers or go to a harland sharp setup or similar arm.

MS3 with bolt-ons and a good tune will get 400 to the wheels.

edit: Stock heads will work great with the cam. Wouldn't hurt to do a minor port and mill on them if you wanna spend the cash. If they're milled make sure you check the piston-valve clearance when you put it back together.

65k miles aint ****, and please spray more than a 50 shot, that would be a waste of money.

I had a similiar problem with my '99 Z28 with 50K on the odometer. I went with a smaller cam and created a good 35 rwhp and I only swapped the pushrods and springs. Today that is a small number compared to what it was a few years ago. The TSP cam packages are great deals for the price and include everything you will need to make the swap. The MS3 is a sweet cam and does provide for a lot of power as well as some of the other cams that TSP has. It does come with new seals, and when installing them make sure you seat them properly or you will get smoke from oil blowing by.

If you are going to have some extra cash, getting work done on the heads isn't a bad idea and would net you some more rwhp.

Good luck and hope the install goes well!

Well I am toying with the idea of gettign heads with the cam and selling my stockers or just keep the heads that I have an get them ported. How much would a porting and milling job usually cost.

If done right, it can cost a pretty penny. Just price around on heads. I went with some CNC'd LS6 heads, nothing major, didn't cost a bunch of cash and the flow is pretty good.

You'd be better off getting stage 2 patriot heads instead of wasting time and money porting the stockers.

Na, there is nothing wrong with my rocker arms as far as I know it. I was just curious if it is worth the money to put an efficient valve train in the heads
