And as most ladies will tell you it's how you use it that matters most.

Same rule applies to cams. I can tell you from experience with my TR 224 it performed as good or better than some of those "big cams". I was able to make 432 RWHP and run mid to high 11's (full weight car) with great street manners and fun factor. I surprised many "big" cam cars on the street and track with peaky power curves and shitty street manners. IMHO big sticks work great for the track and the movies, but bigger isn't always better. I've learned that a well matched combination is what works.
I agree.

Brad, your not picking a cam because of its sound. your selecting a cam to make power.

Sorry, girls say that to guys with small-medium ones. You obviously had more mods (heads or something) to run those times. I don't consider the Torquer v2 a "big cam". It does and will outperform the TR224 plain and simple. My car was a daily driver when I went with the 224 but now it's just a toy, not that the V2 isn't streetable because it is.

compare 2 fbodies, same mods, different cams, the one with the 224 would own the V2 on the street, more likely so at the 1/4 mile track as well. i'm sure the v2 would have more top end pull, gear the car with the v2 and then is a different story. is not how big the cam is, but how much useable power you have matched to your application and driving style. go big if you have an all race car, but match the powerband accordingly.(heads, gears, etc, etc) the bigger the cam, the longer you have to wait for power, i was going to get the v2 for my GTO, but my cars weights 3725lbs, and i didn't want to gear up considering the only options we have is 3.73's or 3.91's. fairly happy with my TSP 228R, very decent power down low,and very decent up top, very fun to drive with a 112 LSA,i know the 224 puts little better tq down low, but not enough to make that much of a difference, (at least that i can see when racing my friends )

Guys you are forgetting the magic word:

COMBO

Every cam needs supporting mods to perform its best. The bigger the cam the more mods needed. Optimize a big cam combo and the smaller one will take a back seat at the track.
Cam cannot perform by itself.

The biggest mistake a bunch of top dollar mismatched parts. Combo is the game.

one thing i have learned on this board is that every single person will tell you to go bigger... and it never ends, don't let people talk you out of the tr224 if you like it... its a proven cam with proven results

Yeah guys Im going to have to go w/ either the TR224/224 563/563 112LSA or the FM-F2 224/224 .588/.588 112 LSA

But like he said combo
Wouldn't the AFR 205's and 90/90 NW/FAST be just what I'm looking for???

Give me some before and after estimations!!!!

325RWHP & 345RWTQ
Before....

390-400RWHP & 400RWTQ
After???

Anyone have a sound clip of the 224 with the .581 lift on a 112. Would there be any difference from the TR224 because of the lift differences? more chop to it?
Not to Hijack, thought it was relevant

If going with expensive heads like AFR's and a 90/90 setup, I'd get a custom ground cam. No reason to give up any bit of power on that expensive setup.

The TR224 is a great street cam and it is proven. Like some guys have already said, if you're building a racecar or want something that puts down big numbers at high rpms, then get a bigger cam and supporting mods. If you'd rather have a cam that has nice street manners and has a useable powerband around town, the TR224 is a good choice. Again though, you have to get the supporting mods like Predator-Z stated. It's all in what you want with the car. Good luck on your choice.

I have the tr224 and its a nice civilized cam. Like any mod you get used to it and you want more. ...the 224/224 Puts out good hp but I'd suggest putting in a bigger cam.
