I know that flow numbers aren't everything, but both the AFR 225s and Trick Flows flow 320 as opposed to the ETP 255s at 349 at .600" lift.

I'm not sure how you can compare the hi-center wide port heads against the cathedral port heads?

Kinda like comparing apples and crankshafts...not much in common.

It will definately be a nice combo and I'm sure there's lots of potential for aftermarket companies and individuals to improve them, but being that they're so new, they're hard to get your hands on them. Availability sucks right now and I'm ready to build something now. If I continue to wait and wait like I have been for this or that to come out, I'll be waiting forever because there is always new and better things coming out all the time.

Soon we will see results form the new TSP 230cc Edelbrock Terminator heads on a 402. They might be something to look into at their price. Their smaller runner head has been a big topic of interest.

AFR, Trick Flow, Dart, Edelbrock, etc. none of these heads compare to the ETP heads?

You should catagorize your perspected heads in port volumes. AFR, Dart, Trick Flow, and Edelbrock only go up to 225cc's. The ETP's go up to 255 cc's. Hard to compare those heads to the ETP's when the ETP's have a vast size advantage.

I thought it was 265 that ETP went up to. Besides, why do the other companies and big names at that, only go up that high? Is bigger not better in this case?

Thumbs up

The bigger heads can usually make more power and flow more air so usually it is beter when building a performance oriented motor. You may trade some low end for top end though with a bigger cam and the bigger heads but you will have the potential for more power upstairs certainly.

On a drag car that sees nothing but higher rpms, I really don't need to be too concerned about low end power correct?

Probaqbly not. You need to look at the range you launch or the converter stalls at to where you shift and make the engine run well in that range.

I'm going to have to send my converter back to Joe at Protorque, tell him what has changed, and he'll build around the specs.

With my old setup (cam only), the converter stalled to 5000+ and I shifted at 7200 rpms. Again, that was on a much milder setup.

They do go to 265, actually, they go to 285, but you had ruled them out already so I didn't mention them. As for the other companies not having that "bigger" head, it's probablly because of the dollar aspect. It costs alot to develop a casting and program. When it comes down to it, the "big" head is not a good investment. The 200-225cc cover 90% of people who buy heads, so this is where porters spend their time. ETP broke the mold when they came out with their line of heads, it's up to the competitors to answer the call, but so far, they haven't.
