Default High Compression & More CID or Turbo System???

I was trying to balance the power difference between a high compression stroker kit and a turbo system. I know that lots of guys have got 450 hp 500tq out of a single turbo system that costs about $4000. The 402 stroker kit from SLP cost about $2600 and the head/cam package costs about $3000, but I don't know what kind of HP/TQ to expect out of that package or either the stroker or head/cam package alone....????....Whats the best bang for the buck? What companies make good stroker kits and what size? Thankz for any feed back...

I can't help much but to get the ball rolling.....

With a stroker such as a 402 or 408, you are pretty much limited to high 4xxrwhp to low 5xxrwhp. But it will have instant throttle response and probably be the most reliable. Plus you can always hit it with nitrous.

The turbo even in a mostly stock car can beat those numbers. However, there is no way in hell you'll be completing that project for the price you listed. Start thinking over 10k.

I would start browsing the FI and the ls2 based stroker sections. You'll learn most of what you want to know just by looking them over for a few days.

Good luck with whatever you chose

Most guys on here are reaching that horsepower mark with the stock cubic inch displacement while staying naturally aspirated. As far as torque is concerned though, more cubic inch displacement will always result in more pound feet of torque. I'd initially go with more cubic inch displacement if I were you (can always add boost to it later on)...

I probably would stay away from the SLP 402...they have had some issues.

Build up a good forged stroker...and if you lose to a car with boost.....spray the **** out of it!!

Personally if I were doing a bang for the buck build I would do a sprayed stroker.

Just do some budget 4XX with nice conservative ring gaps and strong conservative pistons. Keep the stock heads, throw in a nice 228ish cam with like .550 or so lift on a nice 112 LSA. Put a 150 shot on it and hooray your well above your power goals. Shoot, just keep stock cubes and put in some Wisecos and Manleys and spray and cam it.

However, I dont think you need 10K to do a mild forced induction setup. More like 6. You can get the power you want with low pressure ratios and a mild IC. For 500 or so I would maybe just look at a nice blower kit.

NA keeps the raceweight down.

You can do more, with less

Just something to think about.

Nitrous works well with the higher compression. With big cubes you will have more power than you would know what to do with.

I have said it about a dozen times in my tenure here @ LS1Tech. I would not trust that motor as far as I could throw it. SLP makes good lids.

i say start off with a solid bottom end 408 with decent sized dishes and get some small cc heads like 59 cc or so to keep high cr and hose it.then if you get bored of it get some larger cc heads like 72cc and put a turbo/supercharger on .
