First off, what's up guys???!!!
I'm in the process of looking at my options for my new motor set up for 2002!! I'm psyched and can't wait. I'm considering a solid roller set up and would like to know what is needed to make this complete?
TIA

Mike, email "Jason99TA" about this subject. He should have most if all the answers on what you would need. Good luck and let us know how she runs!

Mike, you will need new lifters, adjustable shaft-mount rockers, larger diameter springs, C5R valvecovers or spacers, and a new camshaft. There is also alot of little labor involved. You need to machine out the pushrod holes because the valvetrain geometry changes, machine the heads to clear the rocker arms, remove the baffles in the passenger side valvecover for rocker clearance, etc... You might need longer/shorter pushrods, but you will have to use a pushrod lengh checker when you get the motor together.
I used the Crane lifters, T&D rockers, SAM Racing valvecover spacer, ISKY 1.56" diameter springs, and for my application, 7.450" ISKY pushrods.
Since I used the SAM Racing spacers, I didn't have to relocate the coilpacks. However, I did need to purchase longer plug wires since the coilpacks were raised 1" with the spacer. The 5.3l truck wires work perfect for this.
Give Geoff at Thunder a call if you really want to do the solid roller swap. We will be offering a complete package including everything you will need to make the swap as painless as possible real soon.

Well, Im cheap so I would say: the cam, big double springs (and the ~$40 worth of machine work to fit 'em), modified stock lifters to be solid (email Allen Futral) or Crane lifters, and shims under the rockers to adjust them (no need for bigger valvecovers). Futral motors runs a good 224/228 solid cam, that he sells by the way, and hasnt had to adjust the valves since he installed it...10,000-miles ago. I believe its his daily driver. Oh and 440+rwhp and low 11's on a stock shortblock.

If only those valvecover spacers were available for the '97-98 perimeter bolt heads, I'd be going the mechanical roller route myself.
I just can't justify the expense of new centerbolt heads on top of everything else. <img src="images/icons/mad.gif" border="0">
