Default shift points with a vig3200?

got the vig in the other day, what do you guys recommend as a base point for shift points? I have a hpp3.

i havent done any wot shifts yet, but sometimes at part throttle it feels as though the car just dies on the shift....might be because its shifting too early? other times it feels fine though. could also be that i dont have a shift kit yet, and its shifting really slow.

I had a similar problem with the same converter. I now set the 1-2 shift at + 2, and the 2-3 shift at + 1. Seemed to really help out the car. Now it shifts much better. Try it out, might be different with your car.

hey what's up. yeah, your slow shifting is partly due to the no shift kit. once you get that, things should be a little better. i have mine set at +1 and +1. i can still raise it up, ijust need some time to test it out then. the convertor is awesome. i got the same one as you.

When I got my Vig 2800 installed my tranny shifted a little weird at first. I had a problem hitting the rev limiter on the 2-3 shift. In time, the problem stopped and everything was fine. Just drive the car a few hundred miles before you get too worried about it. I would stay with shift points very close to stock if you have a stock cam/ valve springs. The stock valve springs are not very strong, I don't think you will see much gain at all by raising shift points. The convertor will also make the shifts feel very soft, thats normal.

I had the same problem. Just raised the rev limiter to 6400. From what I have heard you don't get valve float till 6500 with stock valve train.

to the guys hitting their rev limiter, CHECK YOUR TRANNY FLUID!!! mine was doing this and it ended up being that the fluid was low because i added the tranny cooler. this might help some of you

The Vigs are known for their sloppy shifts hence the Transgo. I was told by many Vig owners previous to my converter purchase to use the shift kit or else the shifts probably wouldn't be felt. I'm using the 3 washers and it shifts firm but not so aggressive that the tires break loose. The 3 washers w/stock converter would probably be a bit too much. If you have access to an autotap, log a bunch of WOT runs to get an accurate idea of where your car is shifting then adjust accordingly. You could always keep going +1 till you hit the rev limiter which you hopefully have set at a safe level with stock springs. Good luck.

Wow. The vigs really treat the tranny differently than a Yank. My shifts did get softer after the ‘verter install, but certainly not slower. Actually, they got quicker.

I don’t care much for shift kits. I’ll be getting a Yank SportsmanPro soon enough, and that’ll shift even faster!

ill raise the shift points a couple and see how that helps the situation any. I will prolly eventually get the program (within the year maybe?). From what ive seen, seems like most people gain .3 from removing TM-might be a good idea with your car

This is really only true for you ’01 and up guys. Most of us older LS1s don’t really gain much by ditching TM. It doesn’t do much to our cars to begin with.

I’ve only seen it kick in (negative timing) for a split second during the shift on A-tap. Most of the time it happens so fast Atap doesn’t even catch it.
