Hmm, Khris, looks like it is a bug that is harmless? Roger can you elaborate the codes for Maximvs?? And were they autotap #'s, we might need to find someone like Matt who has Atap Khris. <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0">

Sounds like no big deal dude... <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0">

I don't remember the code number. It might have been P0401. Whatever the code number, it's the "random misfire" code. It causes no harm other than stacking codes up in your PCM. The car mistakes the lumpy idle for a misfire and throws a code if you let it idle for too long.

My car will throw the code if I let it idle for more than two minutes. Guaranteed. The SES light will come on and stay on for varying lengths of time. It has come on for just a few minutes to just a few hours. Otherwise, it never throws a code. After a brief talk with Ed Wright on the phone, he said it causes no problems. I'm just careful with it because I can't stand that friggin' orange SES light being on. I'm getting programming soon anyway.

Hey guys, what code is for throttle position sensor? I doubt it could be that....seeing I knew a guy whos car would barely run...with A/C on it would stall.

Any idea??

This is a M6. The problem mostly in summer
is coming up to light with AC on.. it will die.
Stop-Go traffic cant do ac at all.
It just idles slow enough where it will die if
you dont keep an eye on it.. I used a .030 washer
and got the Idle to high SES light..(not verified by atap) I have now installed .022 shim in the throttle stop to see what I gain or loose from that. BTW i like the idle that .030 gave me just
not the silly light.

Default Revisiting the Trooper Mod..

I have grown a bit tired of the intermittant
bad idle with hotcam/headers. Trooper mod
was a way to add spacers to the throttle stop
screw. I added a small washer thickness = .030
I tested it for a short time and got the car
to die with ac on but I had to try.. Ill take
it on a road test and see what happens.
Oh throttle blade hole = 15/64
I really need say 800 to 900 rpm idle speed.
rather than 700 or less..

Are you A4 or M6? This is going to sound ridiculously simple, but a reprogram would probably solve the problem in a hurry.

If you're M6, I don't really understand... I've been hot-cammed for 3 months now, without a care in the world, other than the occasional SES light for the random misfire code if I'm dumb enough to let the car idle for more than a couple of minutes.

FIX... I used the shim of .022 ! I picked that
because I had some sheetmetal that I made the
restrictor plates out of.
Installed that on top of the idle set screw
and all is well. Stop and go traffic was a breeze.
I threw no codes. This will be my fix for the
fall season.. this coming summer ill work on it
with the AC on and see where I go..
Throttleblade drilled 15/64 and a .022 shim.

Ridiculously simple, but ridiculously expensive too at $450+ if all you want to do is bump up your idle a few hundred rpm. The back half of a single edge razor blade is a hell of a lot cheaper (what I used as a shim).
