Default Cam Sized and HP results

I'm having trouble making sense of the hp #'s being produced from various cams. With the lt1's, it always made sense. It seemed the bigger you went w/ a hydrauluc cam, to an extent, would produce more power as long as you had some good heads on top. It doesn't seemt o make as much sense int he ls1's. I'm seeing over 400 rwhp posted in cars with cars 218 duration/ 550 lift 112ls. Then I'm seeing cars with bigger cams makin less power often. some more. Just wondering if somebody can clear some of it up for me. Is it just really easy to "overcam" these cars? If so, why? When I eventually go to a heads/cam package, I would like to make 400rwhp in an a4 with the best street manners possible. I'd love to be able to go w/a 218 duration cam, but have a hard time beleieving it could do it. Any help?

Well lets see, here is a recent list of
what diffrent setups cars have with cams
and diffrent results..

http://ls1info.com/camstats/showdata.php
(to enter data http://ls1info.com/camstats/ )

There are so many variables to the setups..
I belive that you may want to concentrate
on three areas.
(1.) exaust .. headers, cutouts, muffler , cats
(2.) Intake... lid , filter, MAF ends, Throttlebody ported ...
(3.) Cam and or Cam and Heads..

Lets assume stock programming as a standard....

I belive to get two cars to act the same with
same mods you will have to get to the autotap
level.. to be accurate.. and the cars will have
to be measured by the same means.. dyno or track
same conditions.. ect....

Dyno numbers will vary with conditions..
gas, heat, other mods that were forgotton.

These kind of discussions are great for winter
time arm chair racing

the other thing on LS1s is that people are messing around with the ramp rates and split duration and single duration cams i for one have the MTI hammer cam and love it it is 222/222 566 (or 560 cant remember) 112lsa it is pretty stout runnin cam i picked up minimum of 30 rwhp but i would guess it was closer to 40 (i installed a 9" inbetween dynos as well) but there are a lot of good cams out there just ask us and we will tell ya
