FTRA installed!
Just installed the FTRA and I really like the increase I got at speed. From a 50 punch the car is an animal. I did run into a few problems though with the install. Here they are-
1. I had problems getting the thing to line up. When I got it centered up top, the two bolts on the underside was about 1/2 in off. No big deal, just dremel it out some.
2. After I sealed the box, the filter base doesn't want to fit right. It want's to pop up in the corners. Would the strips used to seal the air box make the box bolt down at enough angle that it would deform the center just enough that the filter base wouldn't fit back just right.
Sorry so long, but any help on # 2 would be greatly appreciated.

I have no hard data, but it feels to pull harder in the upper RPM's. I'll track test it as soon a possible.
I also fixed the problem with the filter base not seating properly. I had to trim the weather stripping. It was a little to thick in the front and was causing the lower air box to distort when tightened down.

I didn't do the FRA before hand so I can't say that the FRA worked just as well or that it didn't. But it does work either method you choose to get more air into the intake.

I did the FRA first, then the FTRA. I also have no hard data, but the Z definitely felt a little stronger up top with the FTRA. I got it used for WELL under $100, so I'm very pleased with it.

How so? The FRA just pulls hot air from the radiator with NO ducting to route the air. The FTRA has ducting (for lack of a better word) that actually pulls AND routes the cooler air right into the airbox and if sealed properly will produce a ram air effect.

1. FRA pulls in air straight off of the radiator...not exactly cold.
2. FRA does little or no ramming of the air.
I picked up a solid MPH or better with the FTRA over just FRA when my engine was internally stock. Most everyone reports about the same.
IMO, it works and is one of the better cost/reward mods there is. <img src="images/icons/cool.gif" border="0"> If I didn't believe in it, I wouldn't have bought a second one for my SS.

i can answer that.. yes.. you pull in OUTSIDE air that is colder.. then the inside engine bay air.. and this air thus produces a "ram air" effect..
