Default ARGH! My Car is F'ed up!

Last night coming home from dinner just cruising along going about 45 or so i hit the gas real quick in 4th....i dunno why but just did anyway right after that i started hearing this loud ticking noise...and i was like ohh great that rattled loose another exhaust leak...so i didnt think anything of it untill this morning when i went to drive to work....The car is running horribly feels like its down considerably on power and im getting a Flashing SES light and when it doesnt Flash it just stays on....im thinking something is screwed up....me thinks either bent pushrods or broken(stock) valvesprings??? What i dont understand is i didnt run it hard all day and how could i just screw something up like that and not even hardly get into it??? Anyways im kinda pissed about it this is the first serious thing thats gone wrong on my car...if the valvespring is the culprit i think im just going to get a Cam package with new springs and such and make that my Christmas present so there is an upside to this The car is now sitting in my driveway not moving till i get this all sorted out...Any help or comments is appreciated!
Thanks
Jay

Did you hit the rev limiter? If so, I suspect a bent pushrod, not too big of a deal.

Well Well Well...

Sounds like you have a broken valvespring, and If I were you I wouldn't even start the car again, a broken valvespring can cause a mess of problems...let me list what went wrong when it happened to me..

1. Fried all plugs
2. Mixed oil and gas throughout the engine
3. Broken valvespring of course
4. Hopefully the piston didn't slap the valve

Engine needed to be drained, all new plugs and wires...

This happened to me while doing 25mph at 3000 rpms...all of a sudden, loud ticks repeating, and yes at first I thought it was exhaust...

Just don't drive the car anywhere, have it towed, god only knows what would of happened to my car if I would of drove it somewhere...can we say bent valves...

Good Luck

You do notice the supreme power loss right??

Thats because you lost the use of 1 cylinder...

the valve is just hanging there if it is a valvespring you broke...

but since you've been driving around a lot it could be a freak pushrod that broke...

If you really want to know, pull off the valvecovers and you will know right away...

Man that sucks Jay . I hope you get everthing sorted out soon. I like your idea of the new cam as "your Christmass present to yourself".

Good luck man

Before you tear into it, check the external things. It could be a loose plug wire, bad coil, etc.

I had a flashing ses, ticking and ran like crap. It was a loose plug wire. The loose wire cause the coilpack terminal to burn up. Replaced the wire and coil, and problem solved.
