Default Oil comsumption problem after cam install

Hi everyone,

I had my thunderracing cam installed about a month ago. Ever since than its been using a lot more oil than before. Is this common for an aftermarket cam? What could have happened during the install to cause this?

Thanks for putting up with my stupid questions,
Nic

Pop your rocker covers off and check the valve guide seals I had 5 lift up on my new heads. Now I run the new type that sit under the spring.

Its the thunderracing 224/.561/112 cam. It never really used oil before the cam and I have about 18k miles on it. Now after the cam it seems I am using a quart every 1k miles. I am running factory heads. What are the valve guide seals? How do I check them? I don't know much about the heads.

Do you get a lot of smoke on start up after it's been sitting a while?

If so, it could very well be valve seals...

if your new cam has a lot more lift ,then its possible that the spring retainers are hitting the valve stem seals.

No, it doesn't really smoke on startup. It does smoke a bit when I jump on it though. Just trying to figure out what could have happened during the cam install to cause this.
