Can a Lid cause a whistling or hissing noise after a cold start-up every morning?

Here's the deal. I've had a Direct-Flo lid and FTRA kit on my 2000 Z28 since February of this year and starting back in September, my car started making this whistling or hissing sound(almost kind of sounds like a tamberine shaking) when I start it up for the first time in the morning. My car makes this noise about 5 times a week on average(every once in a while it does not do it for some reason) and it seems to be getting louder and more annoying as each day goes by. Of course, it always goes away after the car has been warmed up.
Anyways, I dropped the car off at the dealership yesterday and they claimed that this weird noise is being caused by the breather filter or some kind of tube that has to do with my aftermarket intake lid. They claimed its sucking in some false air.
Does anyone know whats going on here? I wasn't under the impression that a lid and the breather filter could do this. For the longest time, I thought that this was my pulley belt that was making this odd noise. How did my car do just fine with these induction mods for 6 months and then start going bad on me?
For what its worth, the dealership said that this noise is not going to hurt anything, but I would like to know if they really are right about this.
Thanks,
Mike

BTW, I just called LS1 Motorsports where I bought the Direct-Flo lid from and they said that they've never heard of a intake lid/breather filter causing this sort of problem.
Makes me wonder if the dealership is full of BS. But I'll wait to get some opinions on this before I come to any judgement.

Lastly, to add to this whole ticking or hissing noise is that you can actually hear it get faster during light acceleration as the rev's come up off idle.
What do you think?

Does the noise go away after the car is warm or if you give it some throttle? If so it could be part of the A.I.R system, mine does it, sounds like a whistle, give it a bit of throttle and it goes away after a few seconds.

Yes, as I stated before, the noise does indeed fully go away after the car warms up, BUT, if I give it a little throttle in park or while actually accelerating, you can hear this ticking/whistling/hissing sound get faster as the rev's go up.
This problem is so odd?

Mine does the same thing when it's cold outside. I don't worry about it as it hasn't given me any problems. Kind of sounds like I have a blower on it
I think it's from the lid as mine didn't start doing it until I put the lid on it and I have the same lid as you do.

Same here. I've had a whisper for one week. When it's cold you can here the hissing from the little K&N filter. Actually you can here the pump shut off as it warms up.

Thanks guys, but some mornings it does get pretty loud to the point where I can go in my house and still hear this annoying noise while my car is warming up in the garage. And other mornings its not that loud at all. Its hard to believe that the lid is responsible for this, but oh well.
Maybe finally the real culprit has been identified of this first in the moring start-up weird noise thing.

is it possibly piston slap?....
try putting the old indution back on for a day if it still does it then piston slap could be the culprit....
dunno but a tamberine sound seems more like a mechanical noise then just air intake noise...

I think it's part of the AIR system during cold starts. Mine does exactly the same thing for a minute or two after a cold start, then clears up.

Mine does the same thing. I've observed that it seems to be related to exhaust also. If I stand at the back of the car after a cold start, wait about 2 minutes, the whistling stops abruptly and steam starts coming out of my exhaust pipes. There is no steam at all while it is whistling. Isn't there a gizmo that does a quick heatup of the O2 sensors in or around the exhaust manifolds? My suspicion is the exhaust is being redirected for a short time which is causing the noise, then something opens up and allows the free flow of exhaust out the pipes. Almost like the flapper valves on the exhaust manifolds in the old cars where they redirected exhaust gases on a cold start to heat up the intake and EGR.

Ya, but whats odd is that I bought my car brand-new straight off the lot with 16 miles on it last December and I did not start having this problem until September. Not to mention I've had my Direct-Flo lid on since February.
And remeber, it does not make this noise every single morning. More like about 4-5 times a week.

2000LS1Z28 It's nothing my friend!! As the other guys pointed out. It is the K/N filter that you replaced the air hose with!! Place your hand over it & you can feel the air rushing inside!!
It does shut down when the motor is warm!! Sounds pretty coo; to me!!

my engine ticks real loud and it never goes away. Dealership told me it's normal so naturally I'm really pissed. I don't want a car that ticks 24/7, what am I supposed to do now?

My car does that too. And after a few minutes, it will stop - or turn off... It's like something cycling on and off. I think it's sounds pretty cool myself, but I have no clue what it is, or why it does it.

Ok, thanks. You guys are right, it is probably nothing to worry about, and the dealership even told me that.
But I'd still like to know why this noise didn't start occuring until 6 months after my Direct-Flo lid had been put on? Wouldn't this noise with the K&N breather filter have started right away after the lid was installed on my car and not many months after?
Doesn't really make sense,
Mike

My corvette does that from time to time and it's bone stock. Nothing to worry about.

Yes.
That's why GM installed resonators (silencers) with the factory lids.
With an after-market lid and no resonators, the whistle appears to be magnified.
No big deal, it's normal.
