Would you mind telling me the specs on your old solid roller cam? Also, how much did it cost you to convert the engine to the solid setup? and how drivable was the car with the solid roller?

Hey Ian,

I was using a custom Thunder Racing solid roller cam. The specs @.050 lift were: 230/230 .612/.612 112lsa.

To converte your car to a solid roller camshaft, you are looking at the following: (all prices are approximate; not sure on exact pricing)

- T&D shaft mount rockers ($800)
- Crane mechanical lifters ($325)
- ISKY 1.55" diameter valvesprings, retainers, and locks ($450)
- ISKY 7.450" pushrods (length will vary depending on heads, camshaft, etc.; $100)
- SAM racing valvecover spacers ($250)
- Taylor 5.3l truck wires (needed for the extra length due to valvecover spacers; $70)
- Extra maching on the heads for the dual springs and clearance for the rockers/pushrods ($100)

I also purchased a Cloyes adjustable timing set w/ the IRL upgraded chain. This isn't mandatory, but is highly recommended.

Also, labor will be a little more expensive than a normal heads/cam swap as there is alot of extra work that needs to be done. This includes checking piston to valve clearance, notching the pistons if extra clearance is needed, setting valvelash, modifying the passenger side valvecover for rocker clearance, etc.

The driveability was great. I previously had a Lunati/B1 cam w/ stock heads and the solid roller setup drove just as good. That is one of the big benefits of the solid roller. You can go so much bigger on camshaft selection and not worry very much about driveability. The solid cams drive like much smaller hydraulic cams.

LOL....he's *DRILLING* into his brand spanking new ARE Stage III LS6 heads that were practically made of gold....it was definitly a Kodak moment <img src="images/icons/grin.gif" border="0">
