Before you even begin to figure out whats going on, get the car on an ATap. The stock gauges on the newer LS1s are garbage. Even my '98 temnp gauge differs from my ATap by up to 20 degrees at times.

Terry's post.

"With my old stock water pump and a 160 degree thermostat the car used to run right under the 210 (middle) mark on the temperature gauge. With my new setup I'm running the same thermostat, with the only change being the coolant flowing the other way via an EWP.
At extended idle and cruising around town the temperature stays right at the same point, a little under the 210 mark. If I get on the freeway doing 75-80, the temperature goes down to the first mark (160??). My only theory at the moment is that since I'm cooling the heads first, and the temperature sender is located in the cylinder head, they must be running much cooler than the block. Any thoughts?"

I know why.....

I think water is running through the crossover tube at the top of the heads and bypassing the thermo, making the engine look like its running cooler than it is. I'll probably reduce the size of the crossover pipe to see if it helps with the problem. What I really need to do is put a few heat probes in the water lines and see what's _really_ going on, but I'm too lazy to do that...

Default EWP, is this good or bad?

With my old stock water pump and a 160 degree thermostat the car used to run right under the 210 (middle) mark on the temperature gauge. With my new setup I'm running the same thermostat, with the only change being the coolant flowing the other way via an EWP.

At extended idle and cruising around town the temperature stays right at the same point, a little under the 210 mark.
