Default I'm doing a hotcam install right now and I have a question

I have the rockers off, do I have to remove the bottom valve spring shims? I have 16 new ones that came with the kit and it's impossible to get those bottom shims off with out removing valve seals. Do I need to replace them with the hot cam?? OR can I use the ones that are already on there?
