Default CNC ported LS6 heads vs. ARE ported LS1 heads

which would be the better heads?

Here's the info on the LS6 heads:
CNC Ported
Three Angle Valve Job
Stainless Intake/Exhaust Valves (2.08/1.60)
Bronze Guides
Titanium Retainers
Competition Valve Springs

LS1 heads:
Stainless Steel Manley Race Flo 2.08 or 2.055 / 1.60 Valves
Competition Cams Moly Retainers
New Enlarged Racing Interlocking Seats Throughout
Bronze Valve Guides

Thanks!

Well....
I believe that the LS6 heads, after porting (complete porting) are only worth 5-8 hp more than the LS1 heads. Mostly in the midrange from what Nick and MTI tell me. I went with a set anyways.

No, that said, I think that Nick's ARE stage 2 port job is significantly better than CNC. So....5-8 hp better? On a car otherwise totally sorted out, yes. On a car with other bottlenecks, probably not. Then something else will limit you. I would think that LS6 heads add 1000-1400$ to the end price. Nick's porting is not that much more than CNC.
Sounds like ARE LS1's are the way to go......

BTW.... LS6 heads have problems when you put larger spring seats in them. Every shop that I know has had to re-TIG weld the roofs of the intake ports after the spring seats break through. Mine did... Perhaps another reason to stick with the LS1 ARE package.

CNC heads are only as good the person who did the original program. Do you happen to know who ported the original heads used for the CNC program?
